About me
I am a Professor in the GIS program at Vancouver Island University. I also teach courses at Johns Hopkins University, Elmhurst College. I obtained my PhD in Resource Management and Environmental Studies in 1998 at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada. I’ve also held faculty positions at York University, the University of South Florida, the University of New Mexico, Simon Fraser University, the University of British Columbia and the University of West Florida.
I consider myself a Geographic Information Scientist with interests in both the fundamentals of GI Science as well as the applications of geospatial technologies to several fields, including water resources, spatial ecology, environmental health, and criminal justice. My current research focuses on issues of scale, error and uncertainty in spatial analysis, as well as on the robustness of spatial analytical techniques. I’m also very interested in the use of Python to write scripts and develop tools for GIS, and I’ve written several books on the subject.
